PHOTOTRAP

 2013

Interactive installation (cut-out in hollow wall, DSLR camera, infrared sensor controlling modified remote shutter, tether cable, PC, script, QR-code on wall label, website)

Phototrap captures images of viewers upon breaking an infrared beam by sticking their heads into the void. Images are live uploaded and archived on a public website whose URL remains at the discretion of those who attended the exhibition. Phototrap serves to create a situation in which the spectator-subject relationship is reversed. Within the larger social context of ubiquitous image surveillance, and  intransparent mass data storage, Phototrap recreates the situation of loss of control over one’s own image on a small and temporary scale.
