Death of a Camera is a fast-paced montage of internet videos that share one thing: the camera gets coincidentally obliterated by objects hitting it. What at first glance appears as a seemingly endless stream of jump scares, however, subverts the sensorial effect that action cameras have had on how we produce and consume amateur videos. We have become so accustomed to their first person view, that we confound their perspective with that of the person wearing it. Death of the Camera makes the spectator painfully aware that the spectator perspective was indeed embodied by a plastic piece of optical equipment. Only when the camera breaks the fourth wall by way of tumbling, cracking, and breaking, does it disavow its disembodied spectator position and in this very moment regains its proper physicality.
